Taxi Cab drivers in Miami-Dade County in Florida are frustrated with a court ruling over a new law that allows for ride-hailing companies such as Uber and Lyft to charge whatever rates they want. The problem taxi companies argue is that they are not receiving fair nor equal protection under the law, because they are still limited by county-regulated fares.
With a lot of technology and financial backing, giants such as Uber and Lyft have skirted the law in many cases, promising their drivers to pay their fines for violations amounting in a cost of over $4 million dollars.
Suffice it to say, the mayor probably will not get much support from taxi cab companies nor their drivers who claim residence in Miami-Dade County, as Mayor Carlos Gimenez criticized cab companies for not being tech-savvy and trying to preserve a monopoly.
